While I understand the arguement, and maybe for most people there good enough. I for one want something that works as a home stereo. I could hook up my computer, but why? I just need a music Server. I could use a apple TV but why and I need more than 80gb. So when it comes down to it I am happy with the classic especially with the price drop, or the memory increase of to 120. Now I might run out and see if I can find a 160 for 249 because I would be a fool not to buy the 160 if I could get it for the same price. My guess they never sold that many and found most wanted 120 which is what I want but I could always find a use for the extra 40, though I doubt any of it would be video.
Just my thoughts on my pocket book.

I don't think you appreciate the charm of the iPod shuffle--it's so light and small that you don't realize you're wearing it. Those characteristics plus its extreme ruggedness make it an ideal companion for even vigorous activities.

I will likely be buying an iPod classic because, on a Mac, it can act as a portable boot-drive. This means I can leave my portable hard-drive at home and just carry my iPod when traveling, which I would do anyway to avoid draining my iPhone (in case I want to actually use it as a phone on the other end of my trip)!

Otherwise, I agree with your assessments.
