Auto-correction saves me a lot more time than it uses up. I like it.
Not a good solution at all. Jail breaking your iphone voids your warranty and Apple will refuse to service it if they find this to be true. DON"T DO IT!!!!!!!
This issue has been addressed numerous times before on numerous Web sites. In my view (shared by many others), it's really a non-issue, as you can always restore your device to its pre-jailbroken state before bringing it in for service. However, if this still remains a concern, then by all means don't jailbreak.

I find it interesting that, while I have disabled autocorrection in Word, precisely for the reasons you describe, I have come to appreciate autocorrection on the iPhone. It makes all the difference in the world in writing fast on the iPhone. As a novelist, I have written 100,000 words thus far on my iPhone and I find the software enhancements to keyboarding crucial. Yes, the editing phase of the work takes more effort to weed out the false corrections added by the autocorrection, but it would be gibberish without it. While I was originally irritated by the suggested corrections, the turnaround came when I closed my eyes and typed several hundred words as fast as I could and was greeted with perfect copy. However, the edit phase is absolutely necessary, but writing science fiction, I have to do that anyway. I would be less likely to use the iPhone for type-and-go works like blogs or even email if I hadn't already developed the habits of checking for substituted words.
